Tuesday deadline for Conn. recounts
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Secretary of the State De nise Merrill has notified officials in New Haven, West Haven, Hartford and Windsor they have until Tuesday to conduct recounts after close votes in General Assembly primaries.
The recounts will be conducted for district 116 in West Haven and part of New Haven after the count on primary night showed Democrat Lou Esposito receiving 548 votes while his opponent David Forsyth received 537, a margin of 11 votes. There is also a tie vote in General Assembly district 5 in Hart ford and Wind sor, where Democrats Leo Canty and Brandon McGee each re ceived 774 votes.
If the recount still results in a tie vote, a tie-breaker primary will be held Sept. 4 for Democrats in the district to choose between the three candidates on the ballot.
