Tuesday's roundup: Lee boys lacrosse earns first win


LEE -- The last of Cav Wolski's six goals proved to be the biggest of the day for the Lee boys lacrosse team.

Wolski, who sent the game into overtime on a goal with 1:49 left in the fourth quarter, got an overtime tally with 2:50 remaining to give the Wildcats (1-3) a 10-9 win over Wahconah Regional. It was Lee's first win of the year.

Wolski got the ball in overtime, beat a defender, and fired the ball past Wahconah goalie Jake Wasielewski for the winning goal.

Wolski had two assists to go with his six goals.

For Wahconah, Dan Hopmans and Adam Parker each had three goals.

PITTSFIELD -- The Spartans jumped out to a 2-1 lead behind a pair of scores by Tom Pfeiffer before the Generals ran off four scores in a row.

"Another slow start," said Pittsfield coach Scott Aitken. "Monument's a scrappy team. As soon as we realized that, we began playing better."

Hoosac 6, St. Joseph 4

CHESHIRE -- The Hoosac Valley boys' lacrosse team scored four times in the second quarter.

Stephin Wallace sandwiched a Jake Beckwith goal to give the Hurricanes three straight in the last 5 minutes, 31 seconds of the first half and convert a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 lead. Mitch Carlow gave Hoosac a four-goal lead 1:24 into the second half. Wallace and Carlow both finished with two goals and an assist.

The Hurricanes' defense held the Crusaders to one goal in each quarter. St. Joe's didn't score in the final 10:45 of the game.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Brett McCormack scored six of his eight goals in the first half as host Mount Greylock rolled to a lopsided victory.

McCormack finished up with eight goals and two assists, while his brother Michael had five goals and two assists.

Cole Hughes had a hat trick and an assist while Hank Barrett scored twice and added five assists.

Greylock sweeps Pittsfield

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The short-handed Mount Greylock tennis teams showed off their depth in an early-season sweep of Pittsfield on Tuesday.

The Mount Greylock boys played without No. 1 singles player Rohan Shastri and didn't allow the Generals to win a single set on their way to a 5-0 victory. The girls were without Melina Sfakianaki at No. 3 singles. They dropped just one set on the way to a 5-0 win.

While Shastri wasn't on the court for the Mounties, his sister Tara was. She blanked Pittsfield's Taylor Turner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to set the pace for the Mounties.

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The host Spartans won all five matches and four of them were in straight sets.

There was, however, quite a battle at No. 2 singles between Monument's Courtney Freadman and Taconic's Emily Rice. Freadman dropped the first set and needed a third-set tiebreaker to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3).

"They were pretty evenly matched," said Monument coach Jeff Caligari, who described the match as having a lot of long rallies.

LENOX -- The Millionaires rolled through this match in straight sets all down the lineup. The best match of the day was Liz Jarck's win over Maya Nesli, 6-3, 6-3.
