Two hospitalized after ATV crash in Peru, Mass.

PERU -- Two females remain hospitalized after they were seriously injured when the ATV they were riding went off the road Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

The victims, whose names and ages have not been released, were traveling near South Road shortly before the accident, which caused them to be thrown from the vehicle, according to Reg inald Zimmerman, spokesman for the Massachusetts Envi ronmental Police.

He said the cause of the crash is unknown and remains under investigation.

Both victims were transported via ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where they were treated for head, neck and back injuries.

One victim was still in critical condition. The other, a juvenile, was listed as serious as of Monday night.

Peru Fire Chief Eric Autenrieth said six members of the volunteer department, as well as EMTs from County Ambulance, re sponded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m.

Members of the Peru Police Department and Environmental Police Department also responded to the scene.
