Tyringham Road detour begins today

Posted

LEE -- The planned around-the-clock detour of Tyringham Road takes effect today.

Town officials said the road will be closed to thru-traffic for a month allowing workers to building a retaining wall to shore up a crumbling riverbank between the road and Housatonic River.

The roadblock between Cone Avenue and Meadow Street won't affect residents living on either side of the affected area as they will still be allowed to travel to and from their homes during the temporary road closure.

Since mid-July, thru-traffic had been detoured around the road during weekday construction, but reopened for nighttime and weekend use.

The retaining wall is the largest of 18 the contractor is building, the majority along the riverbank, as part of the $5.5 million reconstruction of the 2-mile main link between Lee and Tyringham.
