Update: 18-year-old woman shot, killed in Springfield


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Springfield police say an 18-year-old woman has been shot and killed on a city street.

Police responding to the city’s ShotSpotter automated gunfire detection system found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds on Union Street just before midnight Monday.

Sgt. John Delaney says she was taken to Baystate Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead early Tuesday.

Her name was not immediately made public.

The shooting remains under investigation and there was no word on motive or arrests.

The death is the city’s third homicide of the year.
