Update: Attempted robbery at Pittsfield Subway
PITTSFIELD -- Police are looking for a man they say attempted to rob a city Subway sandwich shop armed with a knife and wearing a mask on Thursday night.
The man entered the shop at 381 Tyler St. about 9:17 p.m. Thursday and brandished a knife, according to Pittsfield Police Detective Lt. Michael Grady. He then fled in an unknown direction.
No one was hurt in the incident, said Grady.
"This is an open and ongoing investigation," he said. "We're going through surveillance video now and following up on leads."
The perpetrator is described as a white male in his mid-30s to 40s, approximately 200-250 pounds with a medium to large build and between 6 feet and 6 feet, 2 inches tall.
His face was covered during the robbery, Grady said.
The suspect faces charges of armed and masked robbery, which carries a mandatory minimum five year state prison sentence for a first offense and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Grady said police don't believe this crime was related to two armed robberies from November.
On Nov. 27, a man robbed the Citgo station 1330 East St., armed with a handgun, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. Police said the man was wearing a fake beard during the robbery.
On Nov. 22, a man robbed a Sunoco station at 51 Center St. The robber entered the station at about 5:45 p.m., brandished a knife and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said the man used his long red hair tied across his mouth to mask his identity.
The perpetrator in both those robberies was described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-7, weighing about 170 pounds. No one was hurt in either of those incidents. Both of those cases remain open.
