Update: Northern Berkshire Family Practice, Northern Berkshire OB/GYN move set for Monday - maybe

Editor's note: This story was modified on April 2, 2014. The list of practices that remain open at the Ambulatory Care Center was updated. The phone number for Northern Berkshire OB/GYN was also incorrectly listed. The correct phone number is 413-664-4343

NORTH ADAMS - Two medical practices housed in Northern Berkshire Healthcare properties are moving into new offices, according to a post on the North Adams Regional Hospital (NARH) website.

But the move hinges on details of the pending NBH bankruptcy, according to a spokesman for Berkshire Health Systems, which has agreed to provide administrative support to both practices to allow them to keep operating.

"A final decision on relocation of the two practices has not been reached," according to Michael Leary, spokesman for Berkshire Health Systems (BHS).

Northern Berkshire OB/GYN is set to relocate to 2 Park St. in Adams and that Northern Berkshire Family Medicine is moving to the Ambulatory Care Building at 77 Hospital Ave. in North Adams, according to the website.

Both medical practices, which formerly associated with Northern Berkshire Healthcare, were set to close last Friday until BHS, parent company of Berkshire Medical Center, announced it would step in and oversee the administrative needs of each practice.

Paula Paradise, an employee at Northern Berkshire OB/GYN, said the practice is in the process of moving to the new location and will be available to patients there starting Monday at the same phone number. The office is still taking calls at (413) 664-4343 and 24-hour call coverage remains in place for continued emergency care.

Northern Berkshire OB/GYN is currently located in NARH.

An employee of Northern Berkshire Family Medicine, now located near the Harriman-West Airport on State Road, in North Adams, declined to confirm that the practice is moving to the third floor of the Ambulatory Care Center, a medical building that is on the NARH campus but is not owned by NBH.

Patient medical records remain at NARH.

"After Friday, April 4, the records will be under the purview of Berkshire Health Systems," a post on the NARH Facebook page states.

Private practices already in the Ambulatory Care Center, which are not under the NBH umbrella, are unaffected by the hospital's closing and remain open. Those practices include:

Williamstown Medical Associates; Northern Berkshire Pediatrics; Dr. Robert L. Van Uitert; Advanced Eye Care; Orthopedic Associates of Northern Berkshire; Berkshire Hematology Oncology; Hillcrest Dental; Cardiology Professional Services of BMC; and Urology Professional Services of BMC.
