Vermont man's federal pornography trial will start
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) -- A northern Vermont man is going on trial in federal court on multiple pornography charges involving a young girl.
Forty-seven-year-old Benjamin Weisinger Jr.'s trial is scheduled to begin Monday in U.S. District Court in Rutland. He faces eight felony child pornography charges.
The Lyndon man was arrested and ordered held on $100,000 bail in November 2011 after state prosecutors charged him with sexual exploitation of a child, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, promoting the recording of sexual conduct by a child and other counts. Court documents say Weisinger knew his alleged victim for several years before he began abusing her at age of 12.
The Caledonian Record says the state charges were later dismissed so federal prosecutors could take on the case.
Weisinger has pleaded not guilty.
