Volleyball: Wahconah to playoffs

DALTON -- Wahconah rallied in the fourth set from nine points down to take 15-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 win over Pittsfield and qualify for the Western Massachusetts Division III volleyball tournament.

The Warriors trailed 11-2 in the final set before recovering for the win.

"We've been getting into tight matches, going five sets," said Wahconah coach Dave Lussier. "The girls put together a comeback, pulling out that last win. .. It feels good to achieve one of our goals that we set this season."

Bethany McBain had three aces, 12 kills and 21 digs for the winners while Emily Jordan chipped in with three aces, five kills and 10 digs. Ericka Unwin had 14 assists, seven kills and 12 digs.

Pittsfield got 19 assists and 10 digs from Adrianna Fox while Jasmine Chapman added six kills and 19 digs. Jade Coty finished with 17 digs.

Lee 3, Greylock 0

LEE -- The Lee High School volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of Mount Greylock.

Lee is 12-0 now, with seven matches left to play.

"The scores were a little deceptive," said Wildcat coach John Warner. "We had a tougher time than it may have looked."

Michala Dean led the Mounties with eight kills and 20 digs, while Kelsey Hadley had four kills and Jenna Markland finished with 10 digs.

For Lee, Lauren Richardson had 13 kills, three aces, two digs and 12 assists while Katie Morin had 12 kills, two aces, a block and 12 assists. Alyssa Kelly added four kills, two aces and two digs.

Lenox 3, Mount Everett 0

SHEFFIELD -- The Millionaires continued their winning ways, sweeping the Eagles 25-12, 25-12 and 25-19.

For the Eagles, Melissa Abbott had two aces and four kills while Alex Hoover had two aces and three digs.

Kristen Read had two aces and 15 digs for Lenox. Suzanne Woller had five kills and five digs, Rachel Cogswell had 22 assists and four aces and Emma Jackson added 15 kills, two aces and two blocks.


Lenox 156, Greylock 189

LENOX -- At the front nine at Cranwell, a par-35, the Millionaires got three golfers under 40 to earn their 12th win of the year against one loss.

"I thought we golfed pretty well,' said Lenox coach Dick Salinetti. "The player who impressed me was Kris Vahle. He had nine pars in a row. He was a model of consistency."

PITTSFIELD -- The Generals got an extremely consistent day from their top three golfers, with Ryan Grande, Adam Brickle and Jake Matthews sharing medalist honors with 40s.

"They're all playing pretty good golf this year," said Pittsfield coach Chris Polidoro. "We're doing pretty good. I'm excited to see what they do in the Berkshire Classic."

Monument was led by a 44 from Owen Hunter on the par-35 front nine at the Country Club of Pittsfield.

SHEFFIELD -- With five golfers shooting between 39 and 46 on the par-34 front nine at Egremont Country Club, the Crusaders pulled this one out.

"A very close match," said Everett coach Fred Finkle. "A few strokes here and there and it might have been a different story."


ST. JOSEPH'S (173) -- Andy Cella 39, Danielle LaPierre 44, Tim Wiles 46, Tim Jones 45, Dan Meunier 45, Patrick Vander-Bennett 49.

MOUNT EVERETT (181) -- Devin Farnum 37, Bradley Lupiani 47, Jon Ovitt 48, Kyle Smith 49, Jake Christinat 51, Matt Morehouse 66.

Frontier 211 2, McCann 21 2

ADAMS -- McCann fell on the par-34 layout at Forest Park Country Club.

Dylan Jordan led the Hornets with a 52 while Ryan Meehan scored two points with a 55. Tim St. Pierre's 60 gave McCann a 1 2 point.

McCann also lost to Greenfield 16-8 on Tuesday. Jordan also led the Hornets in that match with a 44.
