Wahconah girls' rally falls short, Warriors lose to Hampshire in basketball
DALTON — The Wahconah girls basketball team mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback, but a lowing-scoring third made the deficit too big to overcome, losing to Hampshire 53-46 on Thursday.
The teams were tied at 23 starting the third, but Hampshire's defense stiffened, holding the Warriors to just four points in the quarter.
Lily Pudlo and Julia O'Connor combined for 12 points in the fourth, but Chelsea Mousette answered with seven points, sinking five of eight shots from the free throw line to secure the victory. Both teams struggled with poor free-throw shooting, however, as Hampshire made 12 of 28. Waconah made eight of 23.

SMITH VOC 50, ST. JOSEPH 33
In Pittsfield, St. Joseph struggled to find its rhythm offensively, leading to a cold-shooting performance and a loss to Smith Voc.
The Crusaders trailed by 15 after two quarters, and they could not create turnovers with their full-court press, allowing the Vikings to ice the game.
Ilyssa Creamer led St. Joe with 21 points.
Stephanie Start led Smith with 15 points.
"They found a way to break our press and scored off of it," St. Joe coach Pete Ellsworth said. "It was just one of those nights. The ball just wasn't going in [the hoop]."
