'Walking illegal pharmacy' admits to federal gun charge
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> A western Massachusetts man once described as a "walking illegal pharmacy" by police has pleaded guilty to a gun charge in federal court in Springfield.
The Springfield Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1QM3aSG ) 23-year-old Joshua "Slim" Ortiz agreed to plead guilty Monday to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Police say Ortiz was carrying a firearm and eight rounds of ammo when he was caught running from police last year.
Ortiz was known as the "walking illegal pharmacy" to Springfield police after he was arrested in March 2014 with 100 bags of heroin along with marijuana and cocaine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Deepika Bains Shukla says she plans to ask for a sentence of no less than three years and one month behind bars.
