We were all robbed in canister theft

Tuesday December 4, 2012

Last Tuesday’s front page article on the recent theft of multiple donation canisters for animals was sickening to read.

That nonprofit organizations are targeted only adds to the wonderment. What have we become? Organizations such as Animal D.R.E.A.M.S. provide more than vital service to the community, they elevate us collectively as a society.

This rash of stealing undermines not only the organizations involved but the volunteers who tirelessly provide for the care and comfort of the feral cat population in Berkshire County, often under the most arduous conditions imaginable. All done by people you will never see.

To the donors who stood at that counter and reached into their hearts and their pocketbooks and to the animals with no voice, this is the face of innocence, both human and feral, gone awry. We were all robbed.
