Weather Service issues severe thunderstorm watch Friday evening

Friday June 22, 2012

PITTSFIELD -- The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has a severe thunderstorm watch in effect throughout the Berkshires until 9 p.m on Friday.

The watch status means there's a strong likelihood that severe weather will occur.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening as a cold front moves across the region. Some storms could produce gusty winds. Heavy downpours could result in some flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas.

The watch also includes Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties.
