Welcome to the festival

The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to the 2014 Southern Vermont Garlic & Herb Festival. Many of you have been here before, and we love seeing you again. You will find your favorite vendors -- and some new and interesting ones.

We are introducing ostrich eggs, venison, and other delicacies. Of course the trademark garlic ice cream and beer tent are still staples of the festival.

With more than 180 vendors, we have worked hard to bring a novel and entertaining experience for all our visitors. Garlic Fest vendors will give demonstrations at their tents, and the information tent will provide the map of their locations. Chat with garlic growers and find out about the new varieties of garlic you can find for your kitchen and garden. Herbal products and related goods are always popular.

We have additional games and activities for the kids. Our musicians will perform from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Remember that pets are not allowed on the property, and please do not leave a pet in the car. If you have a service animal we will issue you a badge at the main gate. Parking is free in the big field. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

There is one designated smoking area with the rest of the festival a "no smoking zone."

One day may not be enough to sample all the treats we have at the Garlic Festival, so take a look at the Bennington Area Guide for a list of restaurants and lodging facilities. Our restaurants have wonderful garlic enhanced menu items. Sample the local beer on our Main Street tonight. Take in a performance of "My Fair Lady" at Oldcastle, our live theater in the downtown.

The Bennington Center for the Arts and the Bennington Museum both have summer exhibits. Ask us at the information tent and we will be happy to help you find your way around town and get to attractions, dining, shopping and lodging.

If you are here for the weekend, try to get out and enjoy some of the recreational opportunities we have locally: Lake Shaftsbury State Park, indoor soccer at the Bennington Sports Center, covered bridges, fishing, indoor tennis, hiking, Lake Paran, kayaking, walking tours, Cinema 7 and more. There is also a Ball Drop with a $1,000,000 hole-in-one at Willow Park sponsored by the Catamount Rotary Club

Stop in to the Bennington Welcome Center out on the intersection of Routes 7 and 9 for more information, new restroom facilities, and free coffee.

Your job is to enjoy the day here in Bennington, Vt., and have a wonderful time at the Southern Vermont Garlic & Herb Festival. Come back and see us again!
