Westfield State University sophomore's body found; no foul play suspected

WESTFIELD -- Westfield State University says a student from Marshfield has died.

The body of Kevin Friedland, a sophomore at the university, was found Sunday morning in Stanley Park, according to a statement from President Dr. Elizabeth H. Preston. Stanley Park is an outdoors facility located near the Westfield campus.

Authorities are investigating, but evidence suggests no foul play, according to Preston.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to Kevin's family and friends for their profound loss," Preston said in a statement. "It is heartbreaking to lose a member of our community, and we are all affected by Kevin's death."

Counseling services was made available to students and staff.
