Weymouth police shoot knife-wielding woman

WEYMOUTH, MASS. >> Police in Weymouth have shot a woman they say walked toward an officer with a knife and refused orders to drop it.

Officers responded to an apartment at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday after getting a call from a "frantic" woman who said her daughter had a kitchen knife and wanted to kill herself.

When the 46-year-old woman would not drop the knife an officer fired once, striking the woman in the abdomen. She was taken to South Shore Hospital.

No names were released.

The woman was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Local police and the state police with the Norfolk District Attorney's Office are investigating.
