Pursuit in space
A mysterious desperado with a strange connection to a Starfleet admiral unleashes a series of savage terrorist attacks that invite the hot pursuit of Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise crew in the PG-13-rated "Stark Trek Into Darkness," the latest chapter in the "Star Trek" saga, officially opening Friday, after advance screenings today, at Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield, Berkshire Mall Cinema 10 in Lanesborough, North Adams Movieplex 8, and Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington.

The WAM Theatre and The Mop & Bucket Improv Company (MopCo) will bring together more than 50 theatre artists from the Berkshires and Capital Region to produce the 24hr Theatre Project on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, N.Y.
Together, the artists will mount five short works; all written, rehearsed, and performed in 24 hours.

Guitar Jam V, the anniversary special, is coming to the Colonial Theatre, 111 South St., Pittsfield, Saturday at 8 p.m.
It will feature one band or artist from each of the first four Guitar Jam shows: Arthur Holmes Blues Band (2012); Robin O'Herin (2011); Bobby Sweet & The BSweet Band (2010); and The BTUs, including Steve Ide (2009).
Presented by The Berkshire Eagle, concert proceeds go to Newspapers in Education, a program that encourages students to read.
