With the PG-13-rated "The Host," opening Friday in Pittsfield, Lanesborough and North Adams, "Twilight Saga" author Stephenie Meyer moves from vampires, werewolves and the pretty young thing torn between them to an alien inhabiting a young woman's mind and sharing it with her "host," and the two hot young guys competing for her/their affection and loyalty.

MCLA's Green Living Seminars: Shared Secrets, continues today at 5:30 p.m. with Caleb Racicot showing "Legalizing Main Street." The focus will be on coding for more sustainable commercial areas.

Signups start at 7 tonight for an Olympic-scoring-style poetry slam beginning at 8 at the Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland St., North Adams.
Participants should bring at least three original poems and no props, costumes or musical instruments. Each poet has a three-minute time limit for readings.
