KISS ME, KATE. High-energy, entertaining production of Cole Porter and Bella and Samuel Spewack's witty, tuneful 1948 musical about the dynamics between an actor-producer-director and his actress ex-wife whose volatile offstage relationship mirrors their onstage relationship as the battling Petruchio and Kate in a New York-bound musical adaptation of "Taming of the Shrew" (6/18). Through July 12. Eves.: 7 Tue., Wed.; 8 Thu.-Sat. (no evening performance July 4). Mats.: 2 Wed., Fri.; 5 Sun. (added matinees at 2 July 5 and 12).  SHAKESPEARE'S WILL. Actress Kristin Wold is at the top of her craft in this expertly written, lyrical one-woman play about William Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway, as, in the hours after his funeral, she reflects on the rewards and challenges of her life as the playwright's wife and mother of their three children, one of whom, their son, Hamnet, died tragically at the age of 11 (6/4). In repertory through Aug. 24. Selected evenings -- 7:30, 8, 8:30. Selected matinees -- 3, 4. (1:35). Shakespeare & Company, Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre, 70 Kemble St., Lenox. Tickets: $80-$10. WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY. A modest 1977 film from Italian director Ettore Scola is the source of this inventive, imaginatively staged, skillfully acted play about an encounter between a working class housewife and mother and a mysterious single man living across the courtyard on the day in 1938 on which Adolf Hitler comes to Rome to meet Benito Mussolini (6/25). Through July 6. Eves.: 7:30 Tue.-Sat. Mats.: 4 Sat.; 3 Sun. (1:12). Barrington Stage Company, St. Germain Stage, Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center, 36 Linden St., Pittsfield. Tickets: $40 and up. (413) 236-8888; barringtonstageco.org
