Wife of victim in fatal Dedham stabbing says life was 'torn apart'
DEDHAM >> The wife of a 78-year-old man who was stabbed to death during a home invasion says her "whole life was torn apart" the day her husband was killed.
The Enterprise reported (http://bit.ly/27AniiS) Dorothea Kontsas made the comments in her victim impact statement, which prosecutors read Tuesday as 52-year-old John Rooney, of Randolph, was sentenced to life in prison in the February 2010 death of Georgios Kontsas.
Prosecutors say Rooney forced his way into the couple's Stoughton home, attacked Dorothea Kontsas and stabbed Georgios Kontsas 28 times when he tried to help her.
The victim's daughter, Dessie Kontsas, said in court that her mother wouldn't be alive today if not for the actions of her father.
Rooney's attorney says Rooney is innocent and plans to appeal.
