Wildcats getting on a roll in tennis


LEE -- Make it two straight wins for the Lee girls tennis team.

The Wildcats won two of three singles matches and swept the doubles in a 4-1 win over Taconic Friday afternoon.

"Taconic is a well-coached team. They're very strong at singles," said Lee coach Jeff Forget. "I was glad two of our girls could win in singles."


Singles -- 1. Caitlyn Briggs (L) def. Isabelle George 7-5, 6-2; 2. Emma Forget (L) def. Emily Rice 6-3, 6-2; 3. Angela O'Neil (T) def. Julie LePrevost 7-5, 6-4.

Doubles -- 1. Ashley Kelly/Isley Gagnon (L) def. Kelsey Fitzgerald/Mallory Eddy 6-0, 6-2; 2. Hadley Cook/Victoria Murphy (L)

Pittsfield boys 3, Everett 2

SHEFFIELD -- Visiting Pittsfield kept Mount Everett (0-5) winless, but this could have gone either way.

Two of the Generals' wins came in three-set matches. The Eagles' Mike Whitaker took the first set from Matt Nesti at No. 2 singles, but Nesti rebounded for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.


Singles -- 1. Tom Cimini (P) def. Jacob Malicky 6-2, 6-4; 2. Matt Nesti (P) def. Mike Whitaker 1-6, 6-3, 6-4; 3. Mount Everett wins by forfeit.

Doubles -- 1. Kaleb Hould/Austin Pedercini (P) def. John Shmerechniak/Raymond Li 6-2, 3-6, 6-4; 2. Max Lowenstein/Kosta Casivant (ME) def. Micah Siegel/Justen Allen 6-1, 6-3.

Pittsfield girls 3, Everett 2

SHEFFIELD -- The score was the same as in the boys match, and the result the same for the Eagles (0-5), but the Generals won all of their matches in straight sets.

The match of the day came at No. 2 doubles as Everett's Erica Sullivan and Samantha Twing beat Anna Worley and Kaitlyn Barcus 6-4, 6-7, 10-7.

Pioneer 9, Taconic 7

PITTSFIELD -- The Braves fought back from a 5-0 first-inning deficit and had the tying run up in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't close the deal.

Pioneer Valley extended its lead to 9-7 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

In the home seventh, Tierney Crocker led off with a single and was forced at second by Anna Sarabia. Sarabia went to third on an out and scored on Kate Praidy's double. She was left stranded to end the game.

Crocker had four hits and Sarabia two hits for the Braves (2-4).

Mount Anthony 6, Drury 3

BENNINGTON -- One bad inning sent the Drury softball team to its fourth straight loss.

Neither team was able to string any hits together, until Mount Anthony took advantage of several Drury errors and a passed ball to push five runs across in the sixth inning.

Cat Record took the loss for the Blue Devils. She pitched the distance and struck out just one in the loss. Both teams managed just five hits in the contest -- all singles.

Holyoke Catholic 16, McCann 1

NORTH ADAMS -- Holyoke Catholic scored eight in the fifth and six in the seventh to pull away from the Hornets down the stretch.

Jordan Prevey continued her hot hitting with another double. She was 1 for 2.

Wahconah 5, Hoosac 3

DALTON -- The Warriors played with energy and toughness to get this win against Hoosac, according to Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj.

Hoosac's Kelsey Hosley played well in goal, stopping 19 shots.
