Williams football beats Wesleyan for third straight win; Amherst next
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Little Three championship will not be shared this year. Williams made sure of that.
Alex Scyocurka made his return to the lineup and rushed for a career-high 205 yards and a 93-yard touchdown run for the Ephs, who stunned Wesleyan 19-7 Saturday afternoon.
Williams will travel to Amherst on Saturday. The Lord Jeffs lost to Trinity 32-20 on Saturday.
The touchdown came on the first play of the Ephs’ second drive of the game.
Williams’ defense held Wesleyan’s standout running back LaDarius Drew to 59 yards rushing on 27 carries.
Williams led 9-0 after one quarter, getting two points when Tom Foote and Adam Datema tackled Wesleyan quarterback Jesse Warren in the end zone.
The Ephs led 16-0 at halftime. Drew got the Cardinals on the board midway through the third quarter on a four-yard touchdown run. Wesleyan kicker Sebastian Aguirre missed on a 33-yard field goal attempt.
Twice in the fourth quarter, Wesleyan got into Williams territory. Once Emmanuel Whyte picked off Warren and the Cardinals stalled on their last drive at the Eph 27.
