Williams gets two All-Americans in wrestling

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Two Williams College wrestlers went to the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend, and both came home as All-Americans.

Jorge Lopez and Chris Chorzepa both finished third in their respective weight classes. Since the top eight finishers are named All-Americans, Lopez and Chorzepa get to put that next to their names.

Both Williams wrestlers reached the semifinals in their respective weight classes, but were beaten.

Wrestling at 157 pounds, Lopez dropped a 4-0 decision to Dimitri Boyer of Coe College.

That forced Lopez into wrestlebacks, and the Eph promptly beat Jon Garrison of Mount Union 5-2 and pinned Reece Lefever of Wabash in 4 minutes, 40 seconds.

Chorzepa, meanwhile, wrestled Lefever’s brother Riley at 184 and dropped a 9-2 decision.

Going into wrestlebacks, Chorpeza beat Coe’s Ryan Sheldon 11-0 and edged Josh Thomsen of Messiah 11-10 to take third.
