Williams men's hockey falls in NCAA Division III tournament quarterfinals

GENESEO, N.Y. >> After making the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time in its history, the Williams men's hockey team finished the season one game short of a final four appearance.

Arthur Gordon scored twice in the first period for SUNY-Geneseo (20-4-6) as the home team held off the Ephs (19-6-2) in the quarterfinal round on Saturday night, 2-1.

Gordon's two goals came with 9:49 remaining in the first period and again with 2:03 left before intermission. His first score was assisted by RJ Burns and Brodie Tutton while his second was from just Tutton.

After neither squad scored in the second, Williams' Colby Cretella cut the Geneseo lead in half as Luke Stickel and Michael Lata provided the assists. But the Ephs were never able to get the game-tying goal.

Devin McDonald registered 31 saves for Geneseo while Michael Pinios recorded 24 for Williams.

Geneseo advances to the final four in Lake Placid, N.Y. this weekend.

More information to come on Sunday
