Williams men's hockey misses tournament


BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bowdoin held off Williams in the third period to claim the NESCAC men's hockey title with a 2-1 victory on Sunday.

The Ephs' Evan Dugdale scored 74 seconds into the third period to cut the deficit to a goal but that's as close as Williams got.

Failing to get the automatic qualier for the NCAA tournament, the Ephs were hoping for an at-large big, but did not receive one. They finish their season with a 17-7-3 overall mark.

The Polar Bears scored twice in the first period to earn the win, racking up 17 shots. Sean Dougherty had to make 36 saves in net for Williams. Bowdoin outshot its guests 38-24 on the day.

The Ephs failed to conver on three power plays, including one midway through the third. Bowdoin scored its first goal on one of its six power play tries on the day.

Lupiani wraps up year

Bradley Lupiani's wrestling season ended Saturday with a consolation-bracket loss at the New England Championships in

Providence, R.I.

Lupiani, a Mount Everett 113-pounder, lost a 15-1 major decision to Cody Beaudette of Cumberland, R.I. Lupiani finishes 38-5, having won a Western Mass. Division III championship and taking second place at the D-III state meet. He was also third at the MIAA All-State meet last weekend.

Lupiani was the only Berkshire County wrestler to reach the New England meet.
