Williams softball sweeps MCLA
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The 2012 softball season is over for Williams and MCLA. It ended well for the Ephs.
Williams swept a doubleheader Monday afternoon, beating the Trailblazers 7-3 in the opener and 11-2 in a mercy-rule shortened five-inning finale.
In the opener, MCLA took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Warnock drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, Marissa Mendetta walked in a run and Kelly Pirzl drove in a run on a ground out.
The Ephs answered with six runs on three hits and three errors in the home sixth. Ali Hart’s two-run single was the key hit of the frame.
Hart ended her Williams career with a two-run home run in the fifth inning that also ended the game.
It was one of five hmers for the Ephs in the nightcap. She hit two as did Lindsey Precht. Ally Ensor also homered off of losing pitcher Pirzl.
MCLA finishes at 6-33, while Williams finishes at 22-16. The Ephs, however, did not qualify for the NESCAC Tournament.
