Williamstown is a safe port in storm
We have owned a second home in town for several years. We have been coming to the area for 15 years and decided to buy after 9/11. It was a safety net. We have golfed, dined, enjoyed the theater and museums and as former educators enjoy college life and the offerings of a college town.
We experienced the wrath of storm Irene last summer and never realized the severe damage that rivers can do when they swell their banks. We felt the outpouring of support for the victims as a true sense of why we decided to live here.
We now are one of the displaced. Our primary residence in Lido Beach, N.Y. was severely damaged by Sandy as she came on shore. Both of our cars were lost. A 14-foot storm surge -- perfect storm, high tide and full moon -- was too much for our barrier island. We just had power restored last Saturday and we hope to have heat by Dec. 7. Our contractor will begin reconstruction on Monday.
We are so fortunate to be here and commute to "Lido" to work and restore our home. FEMA has been terrific in assisting all of us affected.
We hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for our wonderful town.
