Williamstown Theatre Festival: Theater sets two Nikos plays

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williamstown Theatre Festival will present the East Coast premiere of Obie Award-winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter’s "A Great Wilderness" and the innovative PigPen Theatre Company this summer in its Nikos Stage.

"A Great Wilderness" is scheduled to run July 9-20. PigPen Theatre Company will perform "The Old Man and the Old Moon: A Play With Music," Aug. 6-17.

Additional Nikos Stage productions and Festival events will be announced shortly.

In "A Great Wilderness," Walt, the gentle-natured leader of a Christian retreat that endeavors to "cure" gay teens, packs up his life and prepares for a reluctant retirement after decades as head of the retreat. But when his final client quietly disappears into the remote Idaho wilderness, Walt discovers that his previously unwavering moral compass no longer points the way.

With "The Old Man and the Old Moon," PigPen Theatre Company -- with its seven young actor-musicians -- comes to WTF with a fantastical, song-filled tale that takes audiences to the end of the world when an old man abandons his duty of filling the moon with liquid light to search for his missing wife.
