Dr. Henry J. Pierpan, U.S. Navy Dental Corps, was recently promoted to the permanent rank of Navy captain. The ceremony took place aboard the retired battleship USS North Carolina in Wilmington, N.C.

Pierpan is the son of Henry and Margaret Pierpan of Williamstown. He is a 1985 graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown and is a 1989 graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.

Pierpan is married to the former Monica Lynn McLachlan, D.D.S. They have two sons, Reid, 14, and Landon, 10. The family lives in Wilmington, N.C.


Marine Corps Pvt. Joshua A. Rivera-Watson, son of Ada Rivera-Flores and stepson of Mario Flores of Pittsfield, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Rivera-Watson and his fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour, team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and addressed as "Marines" for the first time in their careers.


Marine Corps Pfc. Justin D. Rowland, son of Tina Car penter of Pittsfield and Kip Goines of Pittsfield, recently graduated from the Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course.

During the course, students are taught military correspondence, airfield operations, tactical squadron flight records and reports preparation, and Marine aviation wing and group headquarters command tasks.

Rowland is a 2008 graduate of Taconic High School of Pittsfield, and joined the Marine Corps in October 2011.


Army Pvt. Justin Pollander, the son of John Pollander of Hazelwood Court and Lisa LaBeau of Pease Avenue, both of Dalton, has graduated from the Fire Support Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The field artillery specialists serve in intelligence activities including target processing in field artillery, cannon battalions, division artillery, artillery and maneuver brigade and headquarters and fire support elements.

Pollander is 2008 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School, Dalton.


Air Force Airman Dylan A. Munger, the son of Brenda Wilkinson of South Street, Dalton, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Munger is a 2011 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School, Dalton.


The following Navy Seaman recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.: Andrew O. Donovan, son of Joyce Lincourt of North Adams and William Donovan of Adams; Heber O. Gutierrez, son of Reina E. and Miguel T. Gutierrez of North Adams; and Navy Seaman Aaron L. Prudhomme, son of Anne M. and Thomas Prud homme of Adams.

During the eight-week program, Donovan, Gutierrez and Prudhomme completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Donovan is a 2001 graduate of Drury High School. He graduated from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, with a bachelor of science degree in 2006.

Gutierrez is a 2001 graduate of Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School. He graduated from Southern Vermont College, Bennington, Vt., with a bachelor of science degree in 2005.

Prudhomme is a 2005 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School of Cheshire and a 2010 graduate of University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a bachelor of arts degree.
