With the Colors: Soldiers complete training exercise
Members of a task force with the New York Army National Guard's 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team successfully completed the rigors of a force on force training exercise in Fort Polk, La., on July 29.
New York Air National Guard Staff Sergeant Zachary Despain, from Pittsfield, completed training as part of the 274th Air Support Operations Squadron.
Massachusetts Army National Guard Specialist William Zeininger, from Lee, completed training as part of the Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment.
Massachusetts Army National Guard Specialist Charlotte Crane, from Dalton, completed training as part of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment.
New York Army National Guard Private 1st Class Morgan Moseley, from Chatham, N.Y., completed training as part of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
The troops spent nearly the month of July at Fort Polk as part of the training rotation at the Joint Readiness Training Center.
Their experience included deployment and staging at Fort Polk followed by more than 10 days of offensive and defensive missions in the post maneuver areas against a real opposing force.
The maneuver training is designed to challenge all the components of the maneuver brigade, including infantry, artillery and aviation operations, engineering and reconnaissance tasks, logistics and resupply and medical support and personnel replacements.
The redeployment for the soldiers back to their home states is expected to be complete by Aug. 5.
