Woman found dead in Pittsfield apartment; cause of death unknown


PITTSFIELD — Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Thursday morning in a city apartment.

Halena Irene Gill, 37, was found dead by Pittsfield Police shortly before 8 a.m. at 144 Madison Ave., according to a statement released Thursday afternoon by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

The cause of death has not been determined, officials said.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted Friday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Holyoke.

Anyone who may have seen Gill over the past several days is asked to contact police at (413) 448-9700.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department with assistance from Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office and the Crime Scene Services section.
