Worcester man convicted of stealing SUV with child in back

WORCESTER >> A Worcester man has been sentenced to up to four years in prison for stealing a running SUV with an 8-year-old girl in the back seat.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Richard McBride was also sentenced Thursday to five years of probation after being convicted in a jury-waived trial of kidnapping a child under age 16 and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Police say the 29-year-old McBride stole the SUV about 4:30 p.m. on July 20, 2015, after the girl's father left the vehicle running in front of a city market with his daughter in the back seat.

The father chased the vehicle on foot and McBride was stopped by police a short distance away.
