Worcester police station evacuated in grenade scare

WORCESTER>> Police in the central Massachusetts city of Worcester briefly evacuated their headquarters after a woman walked in with a dummy grenade.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that the station was cleared of personnel early Sunday afternoon when the woman arrived to drop off a souvenir military grenade.

Massachusetts state police gave the all-clear after a bomb squad determined it was a non-explosive training grenade.

The unidentified woman told police the grenade had belonged to her brother, a Marine veteran who recently died, and she wanted to get rid of it.

Police were urging the public to call them rather than ever attempt to handle any type of munitions.
