Worthington GC's James Patterson qualifies for MGA Amateur Public Links

GRANBY -- Worthington Golf Club's James Patterson is through to the Massachusetts Golf Association's Amateur Public Links Championship, having qualified Wednesday in a tournament at Westover Golf Course.

Patterson shot a 1-over 73 at Westover, taking fourth place overall and earning a spot in the field for the Aug. 5-6 championship at Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich. Jon Fasick of New England Country Club in Bellingham and Joshua Farmer of Dudley Hill Golf Club tied for medalist honors, with both shooting a 1-under 71.

Patterson rallied after a double-bogey on the par-4 first hole and bogeys at Nos. 4 and 6, picking up birdies at the par-5 seventh, ninth and 12th holes, as well as the par-4 15th hole. He also bogeyed the par-3 eighth hole.

Two other local players, Paul Briggs of Wahconah Country Club and Chad Alibozek of Forest Park Country Club, just missed qualifying. Briggs shot a 7-over 79, missing the cut by two strokes. Alibozek shot an 8-over 80.
