PITTSFIELD >> The offstage voice of Broadway actress Bryonha Parham and the onstage acting talents of lip-syncing drag queen Taurean Everett will combine to create the voracious plant, Audrey II, in Berkshire Theatre Group's production of the musical, "Little Shop of Horrors," July 6-23, at The Colonial Theatre. Press opening is July 9
Ethan Heard — whose Berkshire Theatre Group credits include "Bells Are Ringing," "A Little Night Music" and "The Cat and the Canary" — is directing this musical by Alan Menken (music) and Howard Ashman (book and lyrics).
Also in the cast are Stanley Bahorek as Seymour, a timid floral assistant who nurtures Audrey II; Lindsay Nicole Chambers as the human Audrey, a salesgirl at the flower shop who Seymour secretly loves; Ron Orbach as the flower shop owner, Mushnik; and Alia Hodge, Wonu Ogunfowora, James Ludwig and Kay Trinidad.
"We wanted to find a fresh way to manifest Audrey II in all her fun and terrifying glory," Heard says in a news release from BTG. "We've decided to bring the infamous plant to life, not with a puppet, but with a fabulous lip-syncing drag queen onstage and a powerhouse, female, actor-singer offstage."
