The 1960 Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winningh musical "Fiorello!" — a hit earlier this summer at BTG's Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge — honors the life and early political career of a maverick politician who won the first of his four terms as Mayor of New York in 1933 as a Democrat-Republican Fusion ticket candidate.

PITTSFIELD >> Berkshire Theatre Group's sold-out production of the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick-George Abbott Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical "Fiorello!" is transferring to Off-Broadway's 185-seat East 13th Street Theater (136 East 13th St., between 3rd and 4th Avenues), home of Classic Stage Company.

Previews begin Sunday, Sept. 4. Opening night is on Sept. 9.

Directed by Bob Moss, founder of Playwright's Horizons, this will be the first full-scale New York City and Off-Broadway revival of the 1959 hit musical.

This production began performances on June 15 at BTG's 122-seat Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge, where it played a sold-out run through July 23.

The young company of "Fiorello!" will feature Katie Birenboim, Michael Brahce, Rebecca Brudner, Dan Cassin, Chelsea Groen, Austin Lombardi, Matt McLean, Rylan Morsbach, Julius Reese, and Michael Sullivan, plus a nine-member ensemble.

"Fiorello!" tells the story of New York's Mayor LaGuardia's rise from an immigrant's son to the feisty congressman who brought down the crooked Tammany Hall political machine. He's also the man singularly responsible for saving City Center from the wrecking ball and transforming it into Manhattan's first performing arts center. Songs from the 1959 show include "Little Tin Box," "Till Tomorrow," "Politics and Poker" and "When Did I Fall In Love?"
