The Buffalo Bills restocked their offensive backfield by signing free agent Damien Harris to a one-year contract. Harris spent his first four NFL seasons with the division-rival New England Patriots. He joins the Bills a day after they lost starter Devin Singletary, who agreed to a deal with Houston. Harris led the Patriots with 2,094 yards rushing and 20 TDs rushing since being selected in the third round of the draft out of Alabama. He also had 40 catches for 281 yards.
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was formally introduced Friday. Whether he’s the Raiders’ long-term answer at quarterback remains to be seen. That's always a question given Garoppolo’s injury history. He also could be a bridge for the Raiders if they try to find their quarterback of the future in next month’s draft. That could put Garoppolo in a role similar to Alex Smith in 2017, when he served as a mentor before Patrick Mahomes became the Kansas City Chiefs’ starter.

He confirmed the move in a post on Twitter saying he was “excited for my next chapter in New England.” A person with knowledge of the deal said it is for three years and could be worth as much as $33 million. The Bristol district attorney's office says 58-year-old Sean Murphy was sentenced last Thursday to 18 months in state prison for, among other things, allegedly posing as a homeless veteran and soliciting donations outside a supermarket for a fake veterans’ charity. Authorities say Murphy was the leader of a group that disabled the alarm and cut a hole in the roof of the E.A. Dion Inc. jewelry company in 2008 and stole the rings.

Rick Pitino is back in the Big East Conference. St. John’s has hired the Hall of Fame coach to boost a storied program that's been mired in mediocrity for much of this century.
