MONTEREY — Police and fire crews, including a state police explosives-containment vessel, were on the scene of a Lake Buel neighborhood Friday, responding to an unknown emergency.
A large crime scene had been set up, and the containment vessel was seen exiting Williams Lane. Route 57 was closed to all but local traffic, and West Road was closed at the North Road intersection, blocking some residents from returning home. West Road is directly across from the staging area.
Police were seen driving in and out of West Road. A Department of Fire Services special operations unit was parked nearby.
Local officials declined to comment on whether explosives were found. It did not appear that there were any injuries.
Monterey Police Chief Gareth Backus and a state police investigator referred questions to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.
A representative of the DA's office said he would provide information soon.
