Area schools continue to provide free meals to students whose families rely on this supplemental nutrition source.

But since schools have closed for several weeks to avoid possible spread of the new coronavirus, several districts are providing meals to go.

For two hours at midday, for example, young people can come to the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires, visit a side room off the nonprofit's 16 Melville St. lobby and leave with two meals.

"Any kid can come in and grab what they want," said Joseph McGovern, the club's executive director. The food is prepared by staff with the Pittsfield public schools.

To reduce the possibility of contagion, many of the new distribution sites are "grab-and-go" style. Hours of operation depend on location.

The following is a partial list of distribution sites that educators are using for meal deliveries in Berkshire County. (To be added to this list, districts can email news@berkshireeagle.com.)

Berkshire Hills Regional

Families in the Berkshire Hills district will be able to pick up meals in a drive-through system arranged by Superintendent Peter Dillon. The hours of distribution, starting Tuesday, are 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Families are asked to email the district at meals@bhrsd.org and provide the number of meals requested.

The distribution sites are:

- Monument Valley Regional Middle School, in the main loop.

- Great Barrington Fire Station, 37 State Road, in the back parking area.

- Housatonic Community Center, known as the Housy Dome, at 1064 Main St., front entrance.

- Stockbridge Town Hall, using the back entrance.

- West Stockbridge Town Hall, at the front entrance.
