To the editor:

This quotation found at a small memorial park in the Pacific Northwest offers another perspective on those who serve in the military: "True Meaning of Honor: A 'Veteran', whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of up to and including his life."

With respect and gratitude to all that are serving and have served,

Linda Belanger,

Pittsfield
