To the editor:

The Berkshire Museum is selling its soul — a Pyrrhic victory. The finality of the loss of the iconic Shuffleton's Barber Shop is heart-piercing for those of us who see it as representing the very soul and spirit of the Berkshires, both yesterday and today.

Art lovers who were never informed of the museum's financial state will turn away in anger and grief. A children's museum will be established in a city where the birth rate is declining and schools are merging or closing.A landmark historic building will be thoughtlessly altered.

These are sad times, indeed. There will be no winners.
