To the editor:

I enjoyed many wonderful visits to the Berkshire Museum with my then young son and daughter. They both had favorite paintings. My daughter's was Bouguereau's "The Pony-back Ride." The painting of two beautiful children playing spoke to her, and on each visit she spent time looking and contemplating. It would be a shame to sell that painting (and others) and deprive future generations of feeling a similar, profound experience of great art.
