PITTSFIELD — A new Taco Bell will be opening next year on Dalton Avenue.
After a lengthy discussion about pavement, shade trees and parking, the City Council unanimously approved a special permit last week for the new restaurant.
Pending final approval by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the drive-thru restaurant will be 2,700 square feet with seating for 50 diners. It will be built right next door to MedExpress Urgent Care, and will replace the Taco Bell in Berkshire Crossing.
The proposal for the new fast food joint was submitted by Hospitality Syracuse, whose application was before the Community Development Board late July.
Developers hope to break ground on the restaurant in the fall, which would place the project on track to open to diners sometime in middle to late 2021, according to City Planner Cornelius Hoss.
City Councilor Nicholas Caccamo proposed a number of special conditions that were added to the developer's plans, including planting six native shade trees on the property and the use of down-casting light to illuminate outdoor signage, rather than the originally proposed back-lit signs.
