STOCKBRIDGE — A major annual fundraiser to benefit the Stockbridge Library and Lenox Library is set for the Stockbridge Golf Club on June 6. The rain date is June 20.
The 22nd annual Golf and Tennis Challenge is open to golfers and tennis players at all levels. This year's tournament honors Richard Sitzer, former president of Lee Bank, for his countless contributions to golf and to the community, said event administrator Jorja Marsden.
Sitzer is a founder of the Sweater Club, formed in 1990 by Ray Dunn "to continue the camaraderie among current and retired members of the Lee Bank board of directors," Marsden stated.
This year's challenge was organized by Planning Committee co-Chairmen Michael Pulitzer of the Stockbridge Library and Steve Peters of Lenox Library.
The tournament begins with registration and a light breakfast snack at 8 a.m., followed by an 8:45 a.m. tee-off for teams of four, vying for prizes in the categories of low gross score, low net score, closest to the pin and straightest drive.
The $125 fee for golfers includes a round of golf with cart, breakfast snack and luncheon buffet with cash bar.
For the fourth year, the tournament will also include a doubles round-robin style tennis event for both men and women. At 10 a.m., tennis players will register and at 10:30 a.m. participate in play with prizes awarded to the top scorers. The $65 fee includes a luncheon buffet with cash bar.
All players will gather for the luncheon buffet and ceremony to award prizes for the top players, as well as the many donated raffle prizes.
Members of the community are encouraged to support both libraries by purchasing raffle tickets, one ticket for $5 or six tickets for $25. Raffle prizes include golf outings, theater tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants and museums, and other items.
Those who would like an invitation to participate in the event, to donate raffle prizes, buy raffle tickets, or help underwrite the tournament as a corporate sponsor may contact Marsden at firstname.lastname@example.org or 413-298-3945.
