PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield native Kevin Jones, U.S. Navy, has been promoted to rear admiral, commander of Special Projects.

Jones's command has assigned responsibility that encompasses providing logistics, transportation and other business and supply-related support to the fleets and shore establishments within the Department of the Navy. The command supports efforts that are high priority and sometimes classified.

Jones is a 1990 graduate of Norwich University, Military College of Vermont, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology and received his commission through Naval ROTC.

Following commissioning, Jones completed supply officer training at the Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, Ga. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College earning a master of arts degree in foreign affairs and a master's degree in business administration.

He also attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program.

Jones's numerous afloat, shore and command tours have included USS Jarrett, USS Kitty Hawk, Navy Supply Systems Command Headquarters, Naval Special Warfare Command, Headquarters U.S. Central Command, and Naval Air Systems Command where he supported the F/A-18 Super Hornet Program, among others.

He was also stationed in Kuwait attached to the U.S. Embassy working with the Kuwait Air Force as an advisor to the Kuwait Air Forces chief of logistics.

A member of the Acquisition Professional Community, Jones has earned supply warfare qualifications in aviation, surface warfare and expeditionary.
