WEST STOCKBRIDGE — A Massachusetts woman escaped serious injury Wednesday when her car went off the road, struck a stone wall and rolled onto its side, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was heading north on Route 41 shortly before 11 a.m. when she lost control of her Saturn compact SUV at the intersection with Route 102 just south of the town center, according to West Stockbridge Police Chief Marc Portieri.
The vehicle crossed Route 102 and plowed through a road sign before hitting the wall and landing on its side on a residential yard.
"It could have been a lot worse," Portieri said, noting the vehicle narrowly missed striking a much larger sign.
The driver was transported by ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, including neck and chest pain. No one else was in the car at the time.
The accident remains under investigation, led by Sgt. Rosario Messina.
