NORTH ADAMS — McCann Tech made quick work of visiting Saint Mary's on Monday night.
The Hornets started their week with a 66-36 victory. It was their sixth win in a row after starting out the year 0-2.
McCann (6-2) dominated from the start, with different players stepping into the featured role throughout. At the end of the night, though, the contest belonged to Tom Ziemba and Connor Griswold.
That duo scored 21 points a piece, trading off dominant halves of offensive basketball.
Ziemba was unconscious from downtown to start, scoring 11 points in the opening quarter and drilling five, 3-pointers before halftime. His 11 in the opening stanza led the Hornets out to a 22-4 lead before the Saints could catch a breath. He worked the drive-and-kick game with starting point guard Nick LaForest, who picked up four assists and a trey of his own before resting the second half with his team up 22 at the break.
Senior captain Lucas Jamros also got some time to rest up after bullying Saint Mary's in the paint to build that early lead. The big man went for four points and five rebounds in the first quarter alone.
Griswold took the reins from there. The junior forward scored nine of his 21 points in the third quarter, stemming the visitors' comeback bid again and again.
St. Mary's went on a little run to open the second half, riding the work of Mike Pepe (15 points) to cut the deficit to 14 at one point, 38-24. But Griswold went back to work in the high post and knocked down a jumper, before grappling his way inside for an and-1 to make it 43-24.
Senior Darius Tovani ended the threat by poking free a Saint dribble and racing the other way for a quick two before the buzzer.
McCann Tech put the game on ice early in the fourth when senior guard Nate White arched in a 3-pointer, then stole the next possession and kept it for a layup through traffic and the foul. With 6 minutes, 26 seconds left in the game, the Hornets were in front 56-26.
McCann suited up only eight players, but got at least a basket from all eight. Colby Marko (nine rebounds) and Cole Boisvert (six rebounds, three blocks) were big off the bench.
The Hornets get a real test next time out as they host Mount Greylock on Wednesday night.
