Berkshire Downs opened for its first season of racing on Sept. 19, 1960 and went bankrupt in 1964, a year after the opening of the Green Mountain Racetrack in Pownal, Vt., but continued to operate until 1968. In 1969, Suffolk Downs purchased all remaining stock of Berkshire Downs and applied for the 24 racing days previously allotted to the Hancock track. Today, the site is home to Sebring Stables, Morgan horse farm, founded in 1989.
