Making a movie in Salzburg, Austria, gave Julie Andrews a chance for a new experience in shopping, Feb. 3, 1965. The British stage and screen star found hats in the Alpine style of the area which gave an added piquancy to her blonde beauty. She was on location for ?The Sound of Music,? screen version of the stage hit. Julie plays the star role. Julie Andrews likes herself in this little straw hat, with an embroidered band set off by twists of the straw. The hat sits on a bandanna-like printed scarf knotted in back. (AP Photo)

A diver climbs over barge into East River off Rikers Island, Feb. 4, 1959, as the tail section of an American Airlines plane sticks out of water where the plane crashed last night in New York. The huge turbo-jet carrying 73 persons crashed into the river just before midnight while heading in for a landing at LaGuardia Field. There are only eight known survivors. Operations were underway to recover the wreckage of the plane. (AP Photo)
