Kershaw Gillespie

Jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, right, describes to the Rev. Alvin L. Kershaw, rector of Emmanuel Church of Boston, an instrument he dreamed up prior to the Boston Globe Jazz and Blues Festival in Boston, Jan. 14, 1966. Dizzy calls it a "Ngungi" and it is made by nailing soda bottle caps to a stick. Rev. Kershaw was master of ceremonies for the festival. (AP Photo/Bob Daugherty)
